classic stuff always on tap

Comfy Chair!

comfy chair this week goes to a fascinating blog focused on Bela Lugosi, VAMPIRE OVER LONDON. This is one of those places you go, start poking around and then look up a few hours later, your head full of facts, personal details and anecdotes.

If you’re unfamiliar with the concept or origin of comfy chair, please refer to this post and also please hit the “COMFY CHAIR” TAG to see all the past chair occupants; their blogs are all great,

AND one of those great blogs & past recipients of Comfy Chair, Toby has responded to his 7X7 blog awards with this great post, I can’t wait to read all his best stuff he’s picked out and strongly encourage you all to do the same!

as for TCM this coming week, I recommend

ODDS AGAINST TOMORROW mon 11am, a great noirish drama with Harry Belafonte & Robert Ryan

CAST A DARK SHADOW tues 1:15pm with Dirk Bogarde setting his sights on rich cougar Margaret Lockwood–can’t go wrong with those two in a great story.

IN NAME ONLY wed 12pm, a romantic drama with Cary Grant caught between Carole Lombard and Kay Francis

THE TRAIN is amazing! John Frankenheimer directs Burt Lancaster, thurs 5:30pm.

EXPERIMENT IN TERROR, sat 3.45a with Glenn Ford, a neat Blake Edwards thriller that I saw when I was a kid, (thanks to Elwy Yost! those in the know on him are welcome to leave a gushing comment!) loved, and surprisingly loved even more when I rewatched it recently.

Glenn Ford is great again with Van Heflin in the original 3:10 to YUMA, sat aft at 4pm

and apropos of Comfy Chair this week, BELA LUGOSI movies on Sunday! ISLAND OF LOST SOULS, if you only have the time for one.

SPEAKEASY on tumblrfacebookgoogle+ subscribe button at bottom & tweettweet

the links roundup on the google+ page (updated almost every day) has been full of great reading this week (if I do say so myself!) and the tumblr has some neat pics/animation, drop by these places as well as the facebook page, if that’s where you prefer to lounge. All rooms are serving at all times, so pick your poison. ;)

and a little bit of site news; some new links have been added and are marked with an axterix ;) for your perusing comfort,

AND samples of the illustration/handpainting/customizing/muralizing/backdropifying work I do has a new home here (it’ll be a dropdown link under the ABOUT/ARCHIVE tab) in a back storage room of Speakeasy, check it out, if you’re into that kind of thing…

  2. Thanks for featuring Vampire Over London in Comfy Chair. I’m all the more grateful because it introduced me to your own fascinating blog. I’ll just pull up my own comfy chair and spend a few hours exploring.

  3. hi– thanks so much for dropping by, and for the kind words about this place! (I suppose I should try harder to let people know there’s a chair waiting for them) LOVE your blog, haven’t come anywhere near exploring it all but will visit often! thanks, stop by anytime
