First Look: Dark Pages’ Latest issue

hot off the presses is the very latest issue of the original bi-monthly publication for noir movie fans; here’s what you’ll find in it…

whheat

In this installment I explore two movies where noir and gangster genres intersect: one early gangster flick that is arguably proto noir, and another in which the lead gangster is unquestionably noir. In these pieces (one of which is part of my regular viewing calendar), I muse upon the shift that came as the gangster character evolved from the Depression into the age of nukes and narcissism. Other features by other great contributors in this issue include a fascinating look at a real life event at Chicago State Hospital and its possible connection to a noir film. There’s another detailed chapter in the ongoing history of noir music, a spotlight on The Prowler with Van Heflin and Evelyn Keyes, plus the usual fun quips and quotes and DVD collector news.

  1. Kristina, the likes of James Cagney and Evelyn Keyes is always well worth a look, even if we’re talking about different movies! 🙂

Looking to THE KILLERS, too! 🙂 P.S.: Our daughter had a great birthday party with family and friends! 🙂
